Understanding the Angels
The term Angel, which is derived from the Greek word "angelos", is
the equivalent of the Hebrew word "mal'akh", meaning “messenger.”

The literal meaning of the word angel thus points more toward the
function or status of such beings in a cosmic hierarchy.

HIERARCHY OF ANGELS:

There are nine types of angels, spanning three sections of heaven,
each according to their specific purposes:

First Sphere - "Counselors"
1) Seraphim
2) Cherubim
3) Thrones

Second Sphere - "Governors"
4) Dominions
5) Virtues
6) Powers

Third Sphere - "Messengers"
7) Principalities
8)
Archangels
9) Guardian Angels

HERE IS A BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF WHO THEY ARE:

SERAPHIM - Also known as the fiery serpents, these are the highest
order of all angels, and the closet to God.  They are the angels of
“divine” fire, love, and light.  They radiate strong amounts of love
and energy, causing their bodies to burn so brightly that not even
other angels are capable of looking at them. Each of them has six
wings and four faces, one facing each of the cardinal directions.

CHERUBIM - Second only to the Seraphim. They are charged as being
the great diplomats and guardians of the universe. In some lore, they
are responsible for teaching prophets. In others, they are seen as
the great guardians, like those alluded to in the Prehistoric Texts.
These angels hold access to vast knowledge beyond human
comprehension. The Cherubim hold the energy of the Sun, the Moon, and
the Stars.  They are NOT cupid-like beings often portrayed in art,
but instead are vast cosmic beings
.

THRONES - The chief servants of God, they mostly do tasks like cast
judgment. As such, certain lore has portrayed them as the final
judges of humanity, the chariots of God, or even the great
destroyers. They are known for their impartiality in carrying out
their tasks, as well as their great insight. As such, they are often
regarded as wheel-like full of eyes and the carry the energy of God
in the form of divine justice.

DOMINIONS - Also known as Dominations or Lords, these angels
regulate orders from the hierarchy to the lower angels. They are also
charged with overseeing the actions of the lower angels and the
regulation of the universe. Dominions manifest God’s majesty and rule
over the level where the spiritual and physical realms begin to
merge.  They are known for their great wisdom and often carry orbs or
scepters.

VIRTUES - These angels have only two tasks. First is the regulating
of the natural world: moving planets, changing weather, etc. Second
is the performing of miracles, or otherwise great acts in the
physical world. They are often known for being compassionate, but
fallen virtues are known for greed and vileness.

POWERS - The Powers are the foot soldiers of angels and safeguard
heaven, each other, and the mortal world from demons and black
angels. They protect our souls, the Akashic Records, and prevent
demons from overthrowing the world. They are also charged with
protecting the gates between dimensions and ensuring souls make it
safely to judgment.

PRINCIPALITIES - Guardians of ideas, sciences, religions, politics,
and the essence of space and time. These angels receive orders from
higher angels and pass those orders to angels below them.  They watch
over countries, towns, cities, villages, and sacred sites.

ARCHANGELS -  Known as the “ruling angels”, the term refers to those
angels of significant rank. While they may be of any other order,
their primary goals are that of sending messages, granting
protection, and the general aide of mortals. Among these are the two
princes, those that serve as the right and left hands of God. The
lowest of archangels are those presiding over the class known as
Guardian Angels.

ANGELS – There are million of angels helping in many different
tasks.  They guard all physical things and people. They include the
angels of love, joy, courage, peace, hope, faith, freedom, and
harmony.
Guardian Angels preside over and regulate mortal affairs.
In this respect, they are often given personal charges that may
extent only so far as one individual or may encompass entire nations,
depending on that angel's particular experience. They are also given
the task of relaying messages from the angelic line to the mortal one.
