Dream Analysis

Dream Analysis to many may seem a very
complicated task -- but, as I have always
mentioned in METAmigo, all tasks become
simple if you just break them down into
smaller steps, and just simply follow them
one by one -- and that's what we'll do.

BEFORE WE START... just a few things to cover:
(1) I believe that everybody dreams.  We may just not physically
remember our dream in the morning.
(2) If you are someone that DOES NOT remember their dreams, try to
say a small affirmation before you go to bed, thanking the universe
for allowing you to remember your dreams.  Say something like:
"I thank the universe this evening for allowing me to remember and
properly interpret my dreams."
Then, just repeat it a few times, and
believe it will happen.
(3) Dreams are messages.  I truly believe this.  And the better we
understand these messages, the better our communication with our
subconscious self will be.
(4) Be prepared.  Place a small pad of paper and pencil/pen next to
your bed... and, in the morning (or even if you wake up in the middle
of the night), WRITE DOWN the key items of the dream.

Dreams seem difficult to understand sometimes.  That is because our
subconscious self uses a language of images, objects, symbols and
people that we then need to interpret to get the message.  But
believe me, it's not difficult and you will be able to do it.

Let's start... in the fourth point above, I tell you to "write down
the key items of the dream" and the reason is - because these key
items are the road map to understanding our message.

KEY ITEMS:
(1) EMOTION
(2) DIRECTIONS
(3) PACE
(4) SYMBOLS
(5) COMMON THREADS
(6) DAY'S EVENT

Below, I'll explain in more detail.

(1) What EMOTION are you feeling?  Happiness? Fear? Sadness? -- All
feelings experienced within the dream are important, but before
exploring each one individually, it will help you at the outset to
state the overriding mood of the dream in a single word. Examples
would be inspiring, discouraging, frightening, enlightening,
mystifying. An easy way to establish this, is to imagine you're
relating your dream to a friend. Without giving it thought, quickly
make a statement such as "I had such a ...(word)... dream last
night." Try to avoid nondescript terms like "weird" or "bizarre", or
any other terms that would apply to most dreams. If you're really at
a loss in terms of describing the dream in one word, write something
like "reminded me of the feeling I used to have before school exams".

(2) Analyzing DIRECTION in your dream.  There are always moving
objects within a dream. Make notes of the general direction of
symbols. For example, you may ascend a flight of stairs, fall down
into water, climb up a rope etc. In this case, if your incubated
question was about a forthcoming situation, the dream may be
indicating that it will be somewhat of a roller coaster ride and may
not be an optimum choice. Common directions worth observing are: up,
down, left, right, backwards, forwards, north, south, east, west,
horizontal, vertical etc.

(3) Establishing the PACE of your dream. Was the overall pace of the
dream slow moving, upbeat or a combination of both. This may provide
clues when interpreting the dream. For example, if part of the dream
constantly alternates between fast and slow, it may be drawing your
attention to an inconsistent approach. Alternatively, if the entire
dream involves fast moving activity, it may be indicating to you that
you need to slow down.

(4) Quick analysis of individual SYMBOLS within your dream. At this
point, don't try to interpret individual symbols. Rather gloss over
your symbols quickly and storm your mind for associations. The
quicker the better. Try to avoid logical deductions and note gut
responses instead. Also, try to limit your associations to a maximum
of 3 words. For example: water = heavy, dark, deep. Individual
interpretation of your dream symbols will follow in the dream
interpretation phase.

(5) Look for COMMON THREADS in your dream. Look at the individual
symbols and see if they have anything in common. Examples are: all
scenes in the dream took place indoors; all objects were in some way
linked with water; all the characters were female; everybody was
facing north; everything was upside down or inside out etc. You may
also find common threads within the associations established in #4.

(6) Note the DAY'S EVENTS for clues when interpreting. Look back over
the last 24 hours and briefly note the highlights. There is no need
to elaborate on the details, simple phrases or words will do. For
example: "angry with Joe", "speeding fine", "good night out."

And from that point, it's almost like putting a puzzle together.

In the KEY items mentioned above, to me, the hardest is #4 -
Interpreting/Analysing the Symbols.

SYMBOLS:

In addition to these universal symbols, however, there are a number
of other important symbols encountered in dreams, some are as follows:

Angels are typically seen as symbols of goodness, purity and wisdom.
Angels can also be symbols of enlightenment. The appearance of angels
in a dream can be a representation of the quest for spiritual
goodness, or a desire to improve your live. The more spiritually
minded often see the appearance of angels as omens or messages, often
appearing in dreams as guides or teachers.

Animals in dreams are often symbols of our own animal nature or baser
instincts and can also be used by the dreaming mind to symbolize
repressed desires. The key to interpreting an animal dream is to
examine the nature of the animal dreamed about. The exact
interpretation of an animal dream depends in large measure on the
type of animal in the dream.

Dancing in a dream can have many different meanings, depending on the
nature of the dance and its context as dancing can be a symbol for
romance or sex. Dancing in a dream can also be a symbol of freedom.

Black Dreams about black objects can symbolize a fear of aging and
death or could represent a perceived void in the dreamer's life.

Blood in the dream can represent power and vitality, but the exact
meaning of blood in a dream is depending on the context of the dream.
Violent dreams where blood is spilled can represent an emotional
upheaval or a loss of control or blood on the hands can represent
feelings of guilt.

Cars if your driving a car in your dream this can represent the joy
of freedom, while dreaming of a car out of control can symbolize
danger or a loss of control.

Eggs can mean a striving for renewal or rebirth, or a feeling of
wholeness and unity. Dreaming of broken eggs can represent a
shattering of faith or a shattering of illusions.

Fog can mean the dreamer is confused or can also mean you are ready
to explore unexplored parts of your life or your personality.

Gate can be either an entrance or an exit, deepening on which way it
is swinging.

Illness such as dreaming about sickness can be an indication that you
need to seek help for a physical ailment as the unconscious mind can
be more aware of the body's condition than the conscious mind.

Keys finding keys in a dream can indicate you have been keeping a
secret, or that you are locking away a secret life.

Mountains in which you are climbing a mountain can symbolize
achieving a goal or reaching for higher levels of success. Dreams in
which you are climbing down a mountain can mean that you have reached
your goals.

Owl dreams can represent the need for knowledge and wisdom as owls
are used to deliver messages in dreams. The owl can be a physical
representation of the subconscious mind.

Road in a dream can indicate the direction the dreamer is headed, and
the nature of the road can indicate the perceived nature of the
journey. A long straight road can mean smooth sailing ahead, while a
winding or bumpy road can indicate perceived difficulties along the
way.

Stairs Dreams of climbing stairs can mean a reaching or a yearning
for higher levels of awareness, while deems of descending stairs can
mean you fear a diminishing status.

CONCLUSION:

In conclusion, once you understand the symbol (and there are many
Dream Interpretation books out there), just listen to your inner
voice in allowing you to put the pieces together and analyze your
dream.
